Living On Other People's Trash

I love shopping on craigslist and at thrift stores. I hardly ever buy brand new household items such as furniture, kitchen supplies and even appliances from small to large. I have day dreams about buying some land and building a house on it completely with used items then filling it with everything needed with the things others want to get rid of. My favorite hobby is to shop at thrift stores and find incredible deals and really unique things. It is tempting to collect too much stuff honestly and even now as I am writing on my blog I know I should clean out my closet and give stuff away myself. I like to think that I am doing my part to help the environment by purchasing so many things that are things other people got rid of. I draw the line though at a few things such as underwear those I like to buy new. I usually try to set an afternoon aside once a month to allow myself to go thrift store browsing; I have found so many great things at thrift stores! I also enjoy curling up on the sofa or before I go to bed with my laptop and craigslist. It is fun to find free stuff or other items that cost a fraction of what they would cost new. I normally won't buy too many things on craigslist over $20 unless it is something really nice and that I really want or need such as a new sofa or nice bed frame. I bought a complete nice pier one queen sleigh queen bed for only $150 and it included the mattress and box spring which was in great shape. Even though I gave the mattress set to my daughter, and bought a more firm one (yes off craigslist again and in excellent condition) I have had the sleigh bed for at least 4 years now and plan to keep it as long as it last. Here is another bed that looks just like the one in the link below I bought for $300 off craigslist about 3 years ago and use it in our guest room. Faux-leather-bed as you can see this bed is normally over $1,000 new. The matress and box spring that is on it currently was given to me by my friend who ended up needing more room in her guest bedroom and down graded from a queen to a full. For my kitchen table and chairs I purchased a beautiful very fancy and expensive glass table with heavy glass and a beautiful heavy scrolled rod iron base for only $75. It looks very similar to this. I added 2 sea grass chairs Pennington-Seagrass-Chair cost me just $20 each, and 2 black leather looking chairs Parson Chairs each $25 the whole set looks fabulous and eclectic and well worth the small cost.
